Bringing greater precision to rheumatoid arthritis treatment selection
Aqtual is developing a blood-based test to predict which therapy class a patient is more likely to respond to.
The Aqtual RA Treatment Selection Test is in development. It is not currently available for clinical use.
RA treatment selection still relies heavily on trial and error.
Patients diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have a growing array of treatment options, including biologic and targeted synthetic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs). However, clinicians lack sufficient tools to predict which therapy category a patient will respond to best.
Each failed therapy can mean months of
- Uncontrolled inflammation
- Persistent pain and fatigue
- Disruption to daily life
- Irreversible joint damage
Aqtual is developing a blood-based test to help predict which therapy class is most likely to work for an individual patient.
A blood-based test to inform treatment selection.
RA is biologically complex. Patients with similar clinical features can have different underlying disease biology and may respond differently to the same treatment. Aqtual analyzes active-chromatin signals in cell-free DNA to detect biological activity associated with the synovium—the joint tissue at the center of RA. Aqtual is developing a blood-based test that uses these signals to predict response across multiple RA therapy classes.
Envisioned RA therapy selection test clinical workflow
Ongoing clinical development and validation of the RA therapy selection test
Aqtual identified active chromatin signals associated with the synovium from a blood sample, establishing the biological foundation for the approach.
Proof-of-concept studies identified active-chromatin signals associated with treatment response across TNF inhibitors, JAK inhibitors, and abatacept.
PRIMA-102 is a prospective, multicenter observational study designed to develop and evaluate Aqtual's RA treatment-response classifier.
- 1,400+patients
